Why book a newborn photography Session?

– You just won’t regret it.

It may seem like this new human will spend its entire life squirming and wailing – at least that’s how it feels at the 3 am feeding – and its a cliche I know but they really do grow fast.

By choosing to book a Bristol newborn photography session you can capture those tiny details, cute newborn poses and special family moments for you to look back with overwhelming love in years to come.

The best time to schedule your newborn baby photographer is within the first 7 – 14 days of your baby arriving. This will ensure that your baby responds to my soothing and posing techniques, that they still have a true newborn look, they are very sleepy and are still curly from being in the womb.

It is advisable to book a date in the diary as early as possible, ideally at least 3 months in advance of your due date. But please do still contact me if you have not booked as I may be waiting for babies to be born and still have availability I do try my very best never to turn a new mum away.

We have written a blog post on scheduling newborn babies on the blog here:

Once you have a provisional date booked in the diary,  we can alter your session date if your baby is early or late and you will be guaranteed a session within the required timescales.

It can take anything up to four hours to complete your photography session as it is completely led by baby. You will not be rushed as the safety and comfort of your little one is of paramount importance. Whilst your newborn is soothed and drops off to sleep, I will patiently combine my photographic style and natural ability to gently handle your baby to create artistic newborn poses and precious memories for you to cherish forever.

How Much will it cost?

We like to keep our pricing nice and simple, simply pay the £30 booking fee to secure your session and then once you have seen your images, choose a package starting from three images (Bronze).

Please be aware there is an expectation that once you have seen your images the minimum package of Bronze will need to be purchased.

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions I get regarding your Bristol newborn photographer session, if your question isn’t listed below, please do not hesitate to ask.

When do I need to book my newborn photography session?

Please please please do not leave it until baby is born, spaces are very limited and I would hate to have to turn you away. Sessions can be booked anytime after your twelve week scan, please see this blog post on booking in newborn baby’s.

How do I book?

A non refundable retainer of £30 needs to be paid to secure your booking. Once the retainer is paid, we will provisionally book your session  by your given due date, however, if baby is early or late, not to worry as we confirm the booking once your baby has arrived.

When is best to bring my baby?

Ideally the session needs to take place before the baby turns two weeks old. Between four – seven days old would be the best time in my experience. But please do not let this put you off sometimes we have last minute availability  and will try our best to fit you in, please call 07828877598 if your baby has already arrived.

The first week or two after birth is such a hard adjustment time for parents. Why does newborn photography have to be in these 1st two weeks?

As families are struggling to adjust, that fleeting newborn stage is so easily forgotten. But newborn babies change so dramatically in the first weeks of life. When they are first born, they are able to bend and curl into these sweet little poses, mimicking how they lived inside the womb. They sleep in such a deep sleep and they have that precious, brand-new “newborn look” that reminds us of the miracle of birth. All these amazing characteristics will begin to disappear forever after just a couple of short weeks. The goal of newborn photography is to capture this extremely short stage in your baby’s life. It is a session centred around capturing the beauty and newness of this tiny little miracle that you have brought into the world.

How do I prepare my baby?

The best thing to do is bring baby in just a nappy (loose to avoid marking on the skin), with a blanket over them to keep them warm, this is to get them used to being without clothes, and to also not disturb them by undressing them in the studio. Getting them used to being naked during the run up to the photoshoot is also very helpful.

Will you be handling my baby?

Yes, l will be cuddling, soothing and posing your baby the entire session. I am trained to handle your baby in the safest way so it is vital you have trust in me as your photographer. If you feel at all uncomfortable with the thought of me handling your baby then a newborn photoshoot isn’t for you. You will always be present during the shoot and baby is supervised at all times.

Why does the session take so long?

The session is a very calm, slow, gentle and laid back. Your baby runs the show, and l cannot make a baby do something they don’t want to do.  The session involves lots of quiet gentle soothing to get the best poses. Rushing the session would not work, and l will take as long as it needs. Please do not make any appointments or plans and just come and relax. Please do check in on Facebook if you like just ask me for the WIFI password!

What if my baby has an ‘accident’ on your things?

This is so normal, I expect this to happen and I always have my washing machine on standby after a newborn session. All items used are washed with or without any mess on them. There’s absolutely no need to worry if this happens.

Will my baby be safe?

Yes of course, your baby’s safety is my top priority. Nothing will be done to put your baby at risk at any time. The images you see where baby is ‘holding themselves up’ or ‘ hanging’ is all done using photoshop magic!! This is also why I always work with an assistant who never takes her eyes off your baby.

Can I bring my other children to the session?

I am more than happy for siblings to attend the session, I have a little quiet area for them to read and colour until its their turn for pictures. If you just wish to have the siblings photographed with no individual photos of baby or family photos I have s special petite newborn & Sibling package please see here for more details of this package.
